Killarney Ireland Engagement
Amanda emailed:
"So Chris and i are engaged! Teeheehee. I was so surprised."
Yesterday, Chis proposed to Amanda and she jumped for joy with wedding bells ringing in her head. Chis gave her the engagement ring in Killarney, Ireland where the two were vacationing.

Obit: Trudie Hocking Wendy's Mother
HOCKING, Gertrude Lorraine (Trudie) July 31, 1921 - Nanaimo BC July 15, 2014 - Victoria, BC Trudie passed peacefully away of old age at the Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents Catherine and Abe Dean, husband R.V. (Bud) Hocking and a daughter, Kathryn. She is survived by her sister Daphne Trueman, children Wendy McKay (Bill) and Alan Hocking (Brenda), grandsons James McKay and Evan Hocking and a great granddaughter Ella McKay, as well as a nephew Gerry Trueman and several cousins. Trudie moved to Victoria at the end of her teen years with her parents and attended Victoria College but left to work in the Parliament Buildings in the early years of World War II. After raising her children, she returned to work at Victoria Book and Stationery. Recreation enjoyment came from curling and driving her Volvo. Trudie always felt that a good lifespan was "three score and ten" so one can imagine her surprise at nearly reaching her 93rd birthday. At Trudie's request, there will not be a funeral. Best wishes are offered to the long term residents of the Rudyard Kipling who were so friendly to her, staff and residents at Parkwood Place and the staff at the Victoria General who cared for her in her final week.

Sketchy Wins the Tournment !
Sketchy won the Best of the Best Comedy Tournament at the Comedy Bar. He showed that a clown can beat those skilled in stand-up, sketch and improv!
He competed against 24 stand-ups, 24 improv groups and 24 sketch troupes. The face off was held from July 1st to the 5th to determine the champion. Sketchy was crowned Comedy Bar's Best of 2014 and won $2000 prize!
In each elimination round, Sketchy, a.k.a. Dave McKay, used different material, which undoubtedly impressed the adjudicators..
